Are GCSE exams in 2022 cancelled? Short answer; No After two of the most challenging years of our lives, GCSE and A-level exams are finally back, as normal.
In order to minimize the impact of the pandemic on exam takers, subjets and topics likely to appear in the paper will be announced ahead of time to allow students to revise more efficiently. Examiners have also mentioned that grade boundaries could be more generous this year than in the past. However, this is treated as a transitional benefit to aid in returning to normal marking within two years. So if you are sitting exams this year, lucky you!
What changes have been made to exams in 2022? Which subjects will tell students the topics ahead of time?
In all subjects - with the exception of English literature, history, ancient history, geography and art and design - pupils will be given notice about the topics to be covered in this summer’s exams.
This allows students to prioritise which topics to revise and focus on rather than covering all topics. This will reduce a lot of stress for thousands of students and exam takers and allow for more effective revision.
How do I find my subject topic information?
You only look for information on the official website of your exam board such as Ed Excel, AQA, BBC, TES, and OfQual. Other sites may provide misinformation and confusion for exam takers.
If you want to know more, your teachers will be able to explain the changes to each of your subjects. You can also find more information on the 2022 changes to exams and changes to non-exam assessments on the government website. What are the key dates of exams? GCSE, AS and A level GCSE, AS and A level exams will take place from the 16th of May until the 28th of June 2022. Your exam centre will provide you with your exam timetable and it is imperative that you understand the time and date for each exam. A missed exam will count for nothing. For more information on exam timetables you can see the following information on each exam board's websites, here: AQA OCR Pearson WJEC Eduqas
All dates and deadlines for the main examination series of GCSE, AS and A levels in 2022 are on JCQ’s website. If there are any changes due to extreme circumstances or because of significant disruption, an exam could be moved to any other date during the exam period, including the contingency day on the 29th of June. Therefore, it is important that you’re available and avoid booking any commitments or holidays during exam time.
How does marking work?
Exams are marked by examiners, who are highly experienced teachers. Once students have answered all the exam questions, examiners will decide grade boundaries. This is the number of marks to achieve certain levels. This year's exams will be marked more generously than in previous years to act as a transition between the pandemic`s disruption and return to normal.
